Sumidero Canyon National Park

Sumidero Canyon National Park

The walls of the Sumidero Canyon began to take shape about 136 million years ago, formed by limestone sediments and minerals left by sea animals such as corals, indicating that in ancient times this part of Chiapas was submerged in a shallow sea. The tour through the Sumidero Canyon is by boat, passing along the entire canyon until reaching the reservoir of the Chicoasen Dam. Also, the visit to National Park is complemented by observation points on the way from Tuxtla Gutierrez city: La Ceiba, La Coyota, El Tepehuaje and Los Chiapa, where the canyon can be enjoyed in all its splendor from different heights.

Montebello Lagoons

Montebello Lagoons

This is one of the most beautiful locations in Mexico, thanks to both its surface and underwater environments, all framed by dense forests. The lakes are “uvalas”, ancient sinkholes that have been joining together over time due to erosion and collapse of the limestone rock. They are famous for the contrasting colors of the water, resulting from several factors, including the type of bedrock, vegetation and the effects of light refraction.

Chiapa de Corzo

Chiapa de Corzo

This colonial town, full of tradition and culture and embellished by the warmth of its people, is one of the most beautiful cities in the state of Chiapas. Located only 15 minutes from the capital, its special attraction is its history, since it was the first city founded by the Spaniards during the sixteenth century. The most interesting part of Chiapa de Corzo is the Mudéjar complex formed by La Pila, a Moorish styled fountain made of bricks, the only one in Latin America; the Temple of Santo Domingo and the convent building beside it, today home to the La Laca Museum, as well as the ruins of the Temple of San Sebastian.
